Arizona Nutrition Education Gardens

Arizona Nutrition Education Garden Kits

With the assistance of a USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant, Western Growers Foundation will create or renovate ten school gardens in Arizona in the 2010-2011 school year.  Schools will receive an educational resource kit, a garden bed kit of their choice and $1,250.  These schools will all participate in pre- and post-garden instruction quizzes to evaluate their shifts in attitudes, consumption and knowledge regarding fruits and vegetables.  Teachers will also be surveyed to asses what subjects are taught in the garden, what funds are most needed for, and to ensure that 100% of the students in the program have received garden based nutrition education.

This garden has brought even the"coolest" kid down to a level that I can teach and have them interested and taking part in the garden! It has been a wonderful experience! Many families have also started a garden in their own home! Thank you so much for helping us with keeping it going!
